Notes on 1933 Estimates.

HONG KONG.

BUILDINGS.

1.-New Government Civil Hospital, $300,000.--The scheme comprises the erection of a large Hospital Block of about 500 beds together with the following subsidiary buildings:-Sisters and Nurses' Quarters, Quarters for two European medical officers, a block of six flats for Chinese medical officers, a block of six flats for European subordinate officers, Students' Hostel, Quarters for Hospital servants, garages and mortuary.

The site is on the Pokfulum Road opposite the junction of Sassoon Road.

The work during the year will consist mainly of site preparation, piling and foundations and indents for materials from the Crown Agents which will be required for the early portions of work.

2.-Market: Hennessy Road near Fleming Road, $27,000.-One half of this market which situated on the North side of Hennessy Road to the East of I.1. 2785 is already functioning. The sum now requested is to complete the second half which will provide an additional 40 stalls. The building is of the open type, one storey in height with caretakers' Quarters on the roof.

3.-Market: Bowrington Canal, $15,000.--The building will be sited over the canal opposite Russell Street and comprises an open one storey market of 16 stalls with caretakers' Quarters on the roof.

4.-Market: Praya East, West End, $15,000.-This one storey open market of 20 stalls with caretakers' Quarters on the roof is sited near the junction of Hennessy Road and Fenwick Street. It is intended that this market should meet the requirements of the West end of the Fraya Reclamation and adjoining area.

5.-Latrine and bathhouse at junction of Hennessy Road & O'Brien Road, $22,000.---This new R. C. C. frame latrine of 28 water closets and 4 urinals will take the place of the conservancy contractors' existing dry convenience. It is not proposed to proceed with the bathhouse upper storey at present but provision is made in the construction to take this second storey.

General Works.

6.-Roads, $50,000.-This sum which is similar to that requested for 1932 is required to provide for the road surfacing, kerbing, channelling and footpaths of new roads as new buildings are erected or realignments of streets take place.

7--Drainage (a) Training Nullahs, $12,000.-This sun is required to meet the cost of training stream courses where this is necessary due to new development.

(b) Miscellaneous Drainage Works, $50,000-Required to meet the cost of providing sewers and storm water drains for houses in newly developed areas.
